Burnaby Poverty Reduction Strategy
About this project
The City developed a community-based poverty reduction strategy for Burnaby. The project was co-led by Burnaby Neighbourhood House (BNH) and Burnaby Family Life (BFL), with the intent of reducing poverty at a local level and supporting the Province’s poverty reduction strategy, TogetherBC.
The City was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) and selected BNH and BFL as co leads for the project (the project team). In the fall 2024, the project team engaged community partners across the public, private, and non profit sectors, as well as residents with lived and living experience of poverty, to inform the development of the strategy. Please see the public engagement details.
The Burnaby Poverty Reduction Strategy was endorsed by City Council on March 24, 2026.
With Council’s approval, City staff are now authorized to work with community partners to develop an implementation plan that will identify local actions, roles and responsibilities, and opportunities for collaboration to advance poverty reduction in Burnaby.
