Please note: There will be increased construction activity in and around Bill Copeland Sport Centre in anticipation of the closure of Burnaby Lake Arena. This may impact parking, front desk services and building access for short periods of time Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. With or without ice, join us year-round and be active

This multi-purpose arena is home to an NHL-sized ice rink for hockey, lacrosse, tournaments and special events. Enjoy ice skating and other ice sports during fall and winter and indoor sports during spring and summer at our arena. Explore programs, facility features, opening times and how you can get involved.

Activities

Browse fall activities and add favourites to your Wish List. Registration will open at 10 am for Burnaby residents on the following dates:

  • August 12: Recreation activities (excluding skating lessons)
  • August 13: Arts and heritage activities
  • August 17: Skating lessons

General registration for everyone will be open August 16 for recreation, arts and heritage activities and August 20 for skating lessons.

Important information for skating lessons

To ensure correct skate level placement, please review your child's latest report card or call 604-297-4521 before the start of registration. Register 3-6 year-olds new to skating for Intro to Gliders.

You can rent hockey and figure skates at our shop for a fee. Helmets are available at no charge. Bill Copeland Sports Centre has ice sledges, skating assists and ice scooters available for people with disabilities.

Our Toonie Skate admission fee includes skate and helmet rental available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: A CSA-approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skate lessons.

A person 16 years of age or older must accompany children 7 years of age or younger on the ice or floor. The ratio of child to accompanying persons must be no greater than 3 to 1. We recommend that as parents, you don't leave your children under 10 years of age unaccompanied at our facility.

Parking

There are seven designated parking stalls at the Sports Centre. These are located in the north parking lot in front of the Bill Copeland Arena. The other four are located in front of the former Burnaby Lake Arena entrance. The parking stalls can be accessed from Kensington Avenue or Laurel Street.

Entry/Interior Access

The route from both sets of designated parking stalls to the front entrance of the Sports Centre is accessible. The Centre has automatic front entrance doors on the west side of the building, facing Kensington Avenue. The reception desk, drinking fountain, elevator, public telephone and both arena surfaces are accessible.

Washrooms

Accessible washrooms are provided on each floor. There are wheelchair accessible dressing rooms and showers in Bill Copeland Arena.

Note

Bill Copeland Sports Centre has sledges, which are ice skating devices designed for anyone that needs a bit of extra support.

Last paid admission 30 minutes before closing. Everyone must promptly exit the building at facility closing time.

Parking

Free parking is available. Additional parking is behind the building on the east side located across Sperling Avenue. Please note that part of the east parking lot will be closed. See map for details.

The two current electric vehicle charging stations will not be in service while the parking lot is under construction. Visit Burnaby.ca/EV to find alternative EV charging station locations. More information will be shared as it becomes available. 

Accessibility

Bill Copeland Arena has ice sledges, skating assists and ice scooters available during the fall and winter season for people with disabilities. There are also accessible washrooms, elevators, parking, accessible viewing spaces.
