Resilient Neighbourhoods

By 2040, Burnaby will create a network of low-carbon, resilient neighbourhoods with housing diversity and affordability

Resilient neighbourhoods are those that are equipped to adapt and thrive when faced with change and challenges, ensuring basic needs are met while minimizing environmental impact. Burnaby has identified 11 neighbourhoods noted for their potential to evolve into complete and resilient urban villages. We’re also developing a district energy utility to deliver clean thermal energy to local homes and businesses.  We’re implementing rainwater management amenities and seeking opportunities to reduce potable water consumption via developments in Burnaby’s Town Centres. And we’re helping residents prepare their homes and themselves to deal with future extreme weather events.
