Regimental Funeral November 2

There will be multiple viewing options for the Burnaby community to pay their respects to RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang.

On behalf of all City Council and all City staff, I want to express how devastated we are over the loss of RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang in the line of duty on October 18.

Shaelyn was just 31 years old, and three years into her career with the Burnaby RCMP. By all accounts she was a talented officer, and a kind and compassionate person.

Our thoughts are with Shaelyn’s family, friends, fellow RCMP members and civilian staff during this terrible time.

RCMP in our community put their lives at risk every day to keep all of us safe, and we owe them so much for the sacrifices they make on our behalf.

City staff work side-by-side with RCMP every day, and I know they feel this deeply.

Finally, I want our RCMP partners to know that they have the City’s full support.

When a tragedy like this happens, we are all affected. Please don’t hesitate to seek support, and I encourage everyone to check in on friends, family and colleagues as we move forward.

Mike Hurley
Mayor
City of Burnaby
