Sav Dhailwal was first elected to Burnaby City Council in November 2002 and is currently serving his seventh consecutive term on Council.
During his 21 years of public service as a City Councillor, he has served as president of Union of BC Municipalities, president of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association and director on the board of Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Currently, Sav is serving his 15th year on the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors which includes four terms as chair of the Board.
Sav is chairing the City’s Executive Committee of Council, Financial Management Committee and Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee.
Prior to starting his public service, Sav spent many years volunteering for minor sports organizations, including as president and as a Life Member of the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association. He was the founding chair of the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
Sav moved to Burnaby in 1969 after graduating from Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology in computer programming. He spent his entire professional career in information technology until his retirement in 2006. Sav and his wife, Cheryl, have lived in Burnaby for 50 years and are proud parents of one son and four grandchildren.
- Volunteered for several minor sports organizations including serving as president of the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association and in recognition of my role, was made a Life Member in 1997
- Volunteered as founding chair of the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame Committee and worked closely with the City in designing the Bill Copeland Sports Centre
- Served the City’s seniors while volunteering with the New Vista Society as a director, treasurer, and trustee
- Founding member of the Burnaby Edmonds Lions Club
- Recognized for services to the community by the Government of Canada, the University of British Columbia, the Fiji Association of British Columbia, the Goel Family Charitable Foundation and the Chetna Association of Canada.
