Transformations community art mural now adorns Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena project site

Last updated: April 17, 2023

Last fall, we invited community members to participate in a community art project for the design of a temporary mural to decorate the fencing around the Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena construction site. Called Transformations: Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena, this community art project invited citizens to create pattern art using transforming hexagonal shapes and colours inspired by the nature and transforming landscape around Burnaby Lake.

Using the patterns created by the community, local artist Mary-Ann Liu created the design for the temporary mural, which has now been installed. It can be viewed along Kensington Avenue on the fencing surrounding the site.

The new Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena will be a destination recreation facility welcoming to all—inspiring positive change within our communities and the unique local environment. The new facility will help position Burnaby as a leader in sports excellence while empowering health and wellness for the community. The new mural reflects this positive change and our unique environment that brings the community together to grow, connect and play.
