The City of Burnaby is taking action to provide residents with even more transportation options following City Council approval of bylaw amendments to allow car sharing companies to operate across the city.
“Car sharing is not only convenient—it’s a great way to cut down on carbon emissions and we’re excited to be bringing this service to Burnaby,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “We want to make it easy to travel in Burnaby. We already have fantastic transit connections, we’re building more active transportation networks and this adds another option for Burnaby residents to leave their car at home.”
The bylaw amendments come into effect in early 2024, allowing car share companies to establish service in Burnaby neighbourhoods.
This move delivers on a key target identified in Connecting Burnaby: Burnaby’s Transportation Plan—to significantly increase opportunities for car sharing in Burnaby as it reduces reliance on car ownership.
More details about the new car sharing services will be available in the coming weeks.
