The City of Burnaby is inviting the community to help celebrate the incredible career of hometown hero Christine Sinclair as she retires from international play at the end of 2023.
Burnaby residents are encouraged to share their messages and memories about Christine through the City of Burnaby’s online greeting card. The messages will be collected throughout December and shared with Sinclair at the end of the month.
To commemorate her many achievements in sport, charity work and contributions to Burnaby, City Council has also proclaimed December 12 as “Christine Sinclair Day.” Both City Hall and the BC Parkway will be illuminated with special colours to celebrate the impact of one of Burnaby’s – and Canada’s – greatest athletes of all time.
Sinclair launched her soccer career in Burnaby at the age of four years old and has since appeared in over 330 international matches over 24 years. She is the world’s all-time leader for international goals scored with 190 goals, an Olympic gold medalist and 2-time Olympic bronze medalist. She is the second player to ever score in five different World Cups.
Sinclair announced her retirement from international play earlier this fall.
