City of Burnaby improves accessibility and safety for visitors to this popular destination
New parking enhancements at Barnet Marine Park, aimed at improving accessibility and safety for visitors to this popular destination, start on May 1, 2024 and are in effect Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays until September 30, 2024.
Barnet Marine Park, nestled along the shores of Burrard Inlet, has long been a cherished destination for locals and tourists alike. It is one of Burnaby’s busiest parks. During peak times, parking is difficult to find and congestion throughout the parking lots and onto Barnet Highway can create safety concerns for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle traffic.
To address these issues, the City of Burnaby has implemented new parking time limits in some of the parking lots at the park. These time limits are designed to encourage turnover and provide more opportunities for visitors to enjoy the park’s amenities, such as the beach, picnic areas, trails and playground.
Highlights of the parking changes:
- Texaco Drive parking lot – 2 hour parking limit
- 14 parking stalls
- Takeda Drive parking lot west – All day (no time limits)
- 171 parking stalls plus 4 accessible stalls
- Takeda Drive parking lot east – 4 hour parking limit
- 123 parking stalls plus 6 accessible stalls
- Mountain Air Bike Skills Course – All Day (no time limits)
- 152 stalls plus 2 accessible stalls
The City of Burnaby appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding as these parking enhancements are implemented. The City will monitor the parking situation and make adjustments as needed for a safe and enjoyable experience for all park visitors.
