Last updated: June 13, 2024

Burnaby residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a series of world-class performances this summer in a stunning outdoor setting, as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) and Vancouver Opera (VO) are set to host free concerts in Deer Lake Park on July 13 and 14.

"Every year, thousands of Burnaby residents look forward to the opportunity to see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera perform in the picturesque setting of Deer Lake Park,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “Events like this help to foster a lifelong love for the arts and music – which is why we’re thrilled to be offering this event free of charge once again.”

This year's 35th anniversary performance of Symphony in the Park (July 13 at 7:30 pm) will transport listeners to other worlds, whether a its trip to 2067 (Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar Suite), an adventure through another galaxy (Star Wars Suite for Orchestra by John Williams) or the tale of a young wizard (William’s Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone).

2024 also sees the return of Opera in Park (July 14 at 7:30 pm) for their 3rd performance in Deer Lake Park. Powerhouse singers and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra will perform instantly recognizable classics featuring music from VO’s 2024–2025 Season including Puccini’s sublime masterpiece Madama Butterfly, Strauss’ hilarious operetta Die Fledermaus and a few additional pieces from both composers.

Come early for the family friendly pre-show and food trucks, bring a blanket or chair, enjoy a picnic and settle in for a wonderful weekend of entertainment with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera.
