VSO and VO Delight Audiences with Two Spectacular Shows

More than 27,000 people flocked to Deer Lake Park on July 13 and 14 to attend outdoor performances by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) and Vancouver Opera (VO), featuring a mix of classical and contemporary music as well as stunning theatrical elements.

“It is amazing to see the support for Opera in the Park and Symphony in the Park continue to grow each year,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “Being able to see world class musicians perform in the breathtaking outdoor amphitheatre at Deer Lake Park is an incredible experience, and we’re thrilled that so many residents and visitors came out to enjoy the shows.”

On July 13, 2024 the City of Burnaby hosted the 35th Symphony in the Park featuring the VSO. This free outdoor concert drew a large crowd who enjoyed a repertoire that included works by Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and Dvorak, among others. Under the baton of conductor David Bui, the Sunday VSO transported the audience with pieces like the Interstellar Suite, Star Wars Suite, and Hedwig's Theme.

On, July 14, the Vancouver Opera took the stage for the third annual "Opera in the Park" event. The evening included performances of classics from their upcoming 2024-2025 season, such as Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" and Strauss' "Die Fledermaus”.

The City of Burnaby, VSO and VO are thankful to the 27,000 plus fans who attended the shows, as well as the volunteers and the Province of British Columbia who helped make the events possible. We look forward to continuing these partnerships in 2026.
