The City of Burnaby is thrilled to celebrate the resounding success of the 2024 Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival, which took place on August 10 at the picturesque Deer Lake Park. This year’s festival saw an unprecedented turnout with over 9,000 music enthusiasts coming together to celebrate a day filled with soulful melodies and vibrant cultural experiences.
The festival featured a stellar lineup of legendary artists and rising stars, including the iconic American singer and civil rights activist Mavis Staples, the genre-blending indie rock band Calexico, the dynamic Gulf Coast soul band The Suffers and more. The eclectic mix of performances captivated the audience, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy that resonated throughout the park.
“It was great to see the community’s response to this year’s festival,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “The turnout and the positive atmosphere are testaments to the festival’s significance as a cornerstone of Burnaby’s cultural events. We’re already looking forward to next year and the opportunity to bring even more exceptional experiences to our residents and visitors.”
The Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival continues to be a highlight of the summer and the City extends its heartfelt thanks to the performers, volunteers, sponsors, not-for-profit partners and most importantly, the community members who made this event a memorable one.
