About Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing

Provincial housing legislation passed in June 2024 permitted building up to 6 dwelling units on Burnaby’s residentially zoned lots. In response, Burnaby is updating our bylaws to help ensure the coming density does not compromise Burnaby’s neighbourhoods as safe and accessible places to live. These bylaw updates will require larger projects (of 4 or more primary dwelling units) to be responsible for many of the same requirements a similarly sized multifamily development would, including safe and accessible lane and boulevard infrastructure.
