The City of Burnaby will leverage its reserves to limit rate increases on water and sewer services, despite Metro Vancouver rates spiking in 2025.
Due to major ongoing capital works, including the new North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant Program (NSWTPP), Metro Vancouver has significantly increased the charges they impose on Metro Vancouver municipalities.
By drawing on our reserves, the City of Burnaby is striving to reduce the impact of these costs that have been passed along.
Burnaby residents will see increases in 2025 as follows:
- 0 per cent for water services
- 20 per cent for sewer services (approx. $123.50 for a house and $66.50 for a condo)
Actual increase in costs passed along to the City of Burnaby by Metro Vancouver:
- 7.2 per cent for water services
- 49.84 per cent for sewer services
The Metro Vancouver rate increases pose a significant challenge for many, with some municipalities forced to pass on 100% of the increase to households through utility bills.
Water and Sewer service utility notices will be sent to residents in February 2025. Residents are encouraged to pay their utility bills by March 17, 2025 to benefit from the discounted amount.
