Burnaby City Council has given the green light to the development of a new Brentwood Community Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will transform the area into a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable urban hub.
“The Brentwood Community Centre represents an important piece in the evolution of one of the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in Burnaby,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “This is a fantastic opportunity to create a gathering place for neighbours to connect and be active right in the heart of Brentwood.”
Designed as a multi-level facility, the 106,000-square-foot Brentwood Community Centre will offer a wide range of amenities for residents of all ages, including:
- Fitness centre
- Gymnasium
- Running track
- Weight room
- Multi-purpose rooms
- Indoor play areas
The new facility will be located on the north side of Dawson Street between Alpha and Beta avenues and integrated into a master-planned, pedestrian-oriented community built by Grosvenor.
The Brentwood Community Centre is expected to be completed in 2029. The estimated design and construction cost of the project is $146.3 million. The project will primarily be funded through the City’s Community Benefit Bonus Reserve, which is money collected from developers in exchange for additional density in our town centres.
