The City of Burnaby is proud to celebrate one of its most distinguished residents, Michael J. Fox, who was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour in the United States.

“Michael J. Fox has not only brought immense pride to our city through his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft, but he has also shown incredible courage and resilience in his fight against Parkinson’s disease,” said Mayor Mike Hurley.

This prestigious honour recognizes Fox’s outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry and his tireless advocacy for Parkinson’s disease research.

Fox, who grew up in Burnaby, has had a remarkable career in film and television, earning acclaim for his roles in iconic productions such as “Back to the Future” and “Family Ties.” Beyond his acting achievements, he has become a source of inspiration through his work with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has raised over $2 billion for research.
