The City of Burnaby is encouraging residents to “Buy Local and Buy Canadian,” in response to recent tariffs proposed by the United States on Canadian products.
“During tough times, our community has always come together to support each other – and this is no exception,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “I encourage all Burnaby residents to adopt a ‘Buy Local and Buy Canadian’ approach, which will help support local workers and businesses, and help to make our community even more resilient.”
At City Hall, staff will review the City’s procurement policies, with the goal of finding more ways to support local businesses and workers. City Council directed staff to return with proposed changes as soon as possible.
The resolution was passed during a special Council meeting on February 4.
