City of Burnaby Announces Call to Host Nations Artists 

The City of Burnaby is inviting artists from the Host Nations, including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples, to contribute to the city's vibrant public art scene. 

The City is seeking a commission for a two-dimensional graphic design to be incorporated on the façade of Fire Station 8, located at Burnaby Mountain.

This project honours the role of hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim speaking peoples as the original stewards of these lands. Supporting visibility and integration of Coast Salish design, the project supports the City’s commitment to fostering relationships, building knowledge, and acknowledging the presence of Host Nations on their unceded territories.

Project Details
Adorning Fire Station 8, the artwork will be a visual landmark for the greater community and Simon Fraser University. The selected artwork will be printed on vinyl and applied to an aluminum panel, with external lighting, on the south-west façade of Fire Station 8.

  • Surface: 16 feet wide by 8 feet high
  • Artistic Medium: Original 2-dimensional graphic design, in any colour
  • Submission Deadline: Monday, March 3, 2025
