Let’s work together to keep Burnaby pools clean!

Whether you are jumping in for a swimming lesson or a causal lap swim, it’s important to take a cleansing shower before entering any pool, and between the use of the hot tub, sauna or steam room.

While chlorine is used to keep our pools clean, its effectiveness decreases when it binds to body waste from swimmers, resulting in a chemical reaction that produces chloramines. Chloramines may lead to skin and eye irritation as well as dryness. They are also responsible for the strong odour frequently associated with swimming pools.

Before entering our pools, as well as between using the hot tub, sauna, or steam room, please thoroughly wash your entire body with soap and water. This practice helps to remove perspiration, body oils, cosmetic products, and other microbes on the skin and hair.

Let’s all do our part to eliminate any harmful bacteria from entering the water we want to swim in.
