Arts Alive: (re)FOLD/(re)FIT

May 3-June 2, 2024 (Lower Gallery)

Opening reception: Thursday, May 2, 7-9 pm

The Burnaby Art Gallery specializes in collecting and exhibiting works on paper—sometimes going beyond prints, painting or drawing. Taking inspiration from sculptural paper artworks within the City of Burnaby’s Permanent Art Collection, senior secondary students from Grades 8-12 used paper manipulation to (re)fold or (re)fit wearable art. In its 42nd year of partnership with School District 41, Arts Alive celebrates the achievements of students by showcasing their diverse interpretations of this theme.

Artist Apprenticeship: Paper Allegories

May 3-June 2, 2024 (Upper Gallery)

Opening reception: Thursday, May 2, 7-9 pm

Artist Apprenticeship supports SD41 Grade 11 and 12 students in their creative ambitions through mentorship from artists and arts professionals, resulting in an exhibition of their own at the Burnaby Art Gallery. Now in its 16th year, this year’s program saw students push their artistic practices beyond the paper, creating innovative artworks in response to selections from the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection.

The Burnaby Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the time and dedication of all participating students, teachers, and career counsellors. These exhibitions are made possible through the generous support of the City of Burnaby, BC Arts Council and the Burnaby School District.
