Join us for a free screening of the action/thriller movie San Andreas, staring Dwayne Johnson, featuring live scientific commentary from Alison Bird, Seismologist at Natural Resources Canada.

Movie: 7-9 pm
During the movie, Alison will provide expert scientific commentary, comparing Hollywood’s inaccurate portrayal of seismic events to realistic scenarios. She’ll also share factual information about earthquake hazards from the recent National Risk Profile by Public Safety Canada.
There will be prizes at the end of the movie and valuable information about how you and your household can better prepare for an earthquake!

About Alison Bird
Alison Bird has been an Earthquake Seismologist at Natural Resources Canada since 2000. For 20 years, she analyzed and researched western Canada’s earthquakes and visited Haida Gwaii as a member of a response team following the 2012 magnitude 7.8 earthquake. In recent years, Alison was part of a team developing a comprehensive risk assessment for Canada. Her expertise is frequently been sought after significant seismic events, a fact demonstrated by her participation in nearly 900 interviews.
