Sohen Gill Sports Box Grand Opening
Celebrate the opening of Burnaby’s newest recreation facility and the legacy of a Burnaby sports pioneer.
You’re invited to join us as we officially open the brand-new multi-use sports box at Confederation Park by officially naming it after Sohen Gill, a Burnaby lacrosse legend inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game as a player, executive, and builder of the game.
The celebration will begin at 11 am and will run until 1 pm, featuring an official dedication ceremony beginning at 11:30, activities for the whole family, and opportunities to play and enjoy the many sports this new facility can host, including:
- Lacrosse demonstrations and try-it opportunities for kids curious to give the sport a try
- Shoot-around on our basketball courts
- Family-friendly performers and entertainment
- Much more!
About the Sohen Gill Sports Box
This project replaced the existing open-air lacrosse box at Confederation Park with a new, covered 200x85’ multi-use sports box that is available for use year-round. This facility features many upgrades over the previous lacrosse box, including:
- covered roof for weather protection
- lighted courts
- multi-use court surface lined for lacrosse, ball hockey, pickleball, and basketball
Construction on this new facility began in February 2023, and the facility welcomed its first users on April 15, 2024.
