We are working hard to provide a place for our residents who don’t have a home
The HOME: Burnaby’s Housing and Homelessness Strategy is a comprehensive, action-oriented roadmap that will help us address specific initiatives and actions we will take over the next 10 years to improve housing opportunities for our community. As part of the strategy, one of our goals is to create a community where homelessness is rare, brief and one time.
To achieve this vision, the City, with community partners from other levels of government, our health authority and community groups, launched the Mayor’s Task Force on Unsheltered Community Members to coordinate efforts to address this complex social issue. The final report contained 13 recommendations with focus areas on:
- creating shelter services
- developing a range of housing types to meet a variety of needs
- coordinating an interagency response to outreach
- providing support services to unsheltered community members
The City is committed to continuing this work moving forward. The following pages provide more information on plans, services, supports and additional resources.

Outreach programs
Our Intervention Support Workers address both the immediate and long-term needs of unsheltered individuals by connecting them with the resources needed to break the cycle of homelessness.

This strategy will guide Burnaby’s decisions on community housing and homelessness over the next decade.
Mayor’s Task Force on Unsheltered Community Members
The task force included representation from the unsheltered community, as well as expert consultants that guided the development of a final report with recommendations to Council.
