Nanaimo is a unique laneway house that optimizes sites that are sloped. The design accommodates an exterior car pad with the garbage/recycling nook built under the split-level raised patio. There are two entries; one single door access to the lower bedroom and the other is a French door that leads into the living dining area, which is at a similar/same elevation as the main house rear yard. The upper level is the ‘public’ space as it contains the kitchen and dining that opens up to the outdoor amenity space. A small exterior pa􀆟o off the living/kitchen space faces the lane. The two suit‐style bedrooms are on the lower levels, accessed by the stair. The stacked washer and dryer closet is a few steps below the lower bedroom, adjacent to the crawl space access under the stairs. The flat roof accommodates solar panels that can easily be accessed from the upper split‐level raised patio.
